NMSO invites the public to be on hand for an event with a statewide torch relay at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center on Thursday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. Cecilia Acosta, Executive Director for NMSO stated the “Program will celebrate and give some “love” to all local game athletes involved in local games and athletes that have qualified to compete at Nationals”. The statewide torch kicked off in Silver City, NM last month to celebrate thousands of senior athletes 50 years and older who are involved in the Games each year. After the torch relay run in Roswell, two other communities will host a torch relay run each month leading up to the beginning of the Games. The Senior Games Flame will be carried by qualified athletes eligible to attend the 2019 National Senior Games, presented by Humana. The celebration will recognize accomplished local athletes and follow with a small reception of refreshments and entertainment. Anna Sanchez of the Albuquerque National Senior Games will be on hand to energize athletes to register for Nationals. The Torch will be passed on to Santa Fe who will be in attendance for the hand-off. The final leg of the torch relay run will take place at the official Flame Arrival Ceremony on Saturday, June 15, 2019, on Civic Plaza in Albuquerque, NM to commence the 2019 National Senior Games.
