Adults of all artistic experience levels are invited to participate in a two-day workshop with Belen-based artist Laura Wacha exploring simple, recycled materials and papier-mâché. In this workshop, Wacha will demonstrate the step-by-step process as you create a colorful sculpture filled with personality. The event will take place at the Roswell Museum and Art Center on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Lorene Johnson Gratton workshops are open to both paying students and those with a financial need who require a scholarship to participate. Based on need, students may take the workshop free of charge or pay up to the suggested donation of $125. Workshops are open to adults of all experience levels. All materials will be provided including acrylic paint, brushes, and paper.
Born and raised in Sarasota, Florida, Laura Wacha began painting in 1992, and later made papier-mâché sculptures when she returned to elementary school as an art teacher. Her work employs imagery both grotesque and humorous, cartoonish and yet beautifully executed, to show what may lie beneath the surface of how we view ourselves, our roles in society, and the world at large. She lives and works in Belen, New Mexico.
