J. Kenneth Smith Bird Sanctuary
The J. Kenneth Smith Bird Sanctuary and Nature Center provides children and citizens of Chaves County with a rich educational experience involving the expansion of knowledge of birds and their habitat and the fragile ecosystem in which they live. Some of the birds that visit the sanctuary include the black-chinned hummingbird, blue grosbeak, Canada goose, ruddy duck and the scaled quail, just to name a few.
The sanctuary is also located along the Spring River Trail, a 4 mile-long trail that runs from Enchanted Lands Park along Nancy Lopez Golf Course, through Cahoon Park, past the Roswell Museum and out to Spring River Zoo. Fully paved, the trail is ideal for walkers, runners and cyclists of all ages and abilities.
